Hyperpigmentation can be referred to by many names, including brown spots, melasma, age spots, "liver spots", sun spots, sun freckles, and pregnancy masks. As in melasma, or spreads to concentrated areas such as small scars, hyperpigmentation is more often controlled than when it is removed, and in some cases the best response is mixed and glazed.
The most effective solution for existing brown spots and uneven pigmented skin is one or a combination of these:
Rejuvelux Photo facial:
Photofacial (IPL) is a light-based treatment that focuses on the brown and red pigment in your skin. This dual action means it helps to reduce and in some cases can remove both brown patches and small veins.
Cosmelan:
An intensive topical treatment program that prevents melanin production and brightens your skin with non-hydroquinone ingredients.
Fractional laser:
FDA-approved laser treatment for melasma and chlosma and sun-induced hyperpigmentation
Chemical Peel: Total skin regeneration by chemically peeling your damaged skin.
Prevention And Protection Is The Key.
Effective sunscreen with 30SPF High, when used properly, can greatly help improve and prevent hyperpigmentation problems.
Melanin:
The good and bad of your natural pigment
The color of the skin, pale or dark, comes from melanin. Some individuals are born with more melanin cells than others and as a result, the incidence of problematic pigmentation is higher. The more melanin in your skin, the more complex it becomes and the more “color-capable” it is.
Sunlight, heat, injury or hormonal changes can trigger an increase in melanin production. It is an abnormal growth that causes irregular color on the skin. In response to these triggers melanin rises to the surface of the skin, but the cells emerge deeper into the skin and are not immediately visible as they slowly rise to the surface. That is why you may not see brown spots for days, weeks or months after the cause.
Melanin is a skin protector and body's effort to prevent cell damage from the sun or heat. The "tan" that most Southern California sun worshipers want is actually the body's response to cell damage. With repeated insults, evenly tanned skin spots appear and then darker black spots begin to appear.
The 3 Main Causes Of Hyper Pigmentation And Brown Spots:
1- Patients with sun-induced hyperpigmentation with sun-induced hyperpigmentation on the neck.
2- One of the primary functions of melanin production in your skin is to protect you from the sun and UV rays. “Tan” is a prime example of your body’s melanin response to the sun.
3- When the skin is attacked by repeated exposure to sunlight, you experience sunburn in many ways and one of them is brown spots and hyper-pigmentation as a result of excessive production of melanin. Once the cycle of over-production of pigment begins, it is difficult to stop and usually requires medical intervention.
3- Hormonal hyperpigmentation (melasma or chlosma) A patient suffering from hormonal hyperpigmentation caused by hormonal changes
The second most frequent cause of hyper-pigmentation is changes in hormones. It may be the result of birth control pills, various stages of pregnancy or menopause. Hormone shift causes melanin cells to overdrive. This can happen even if you are not a sun worshiper. Sunshine always gets worse.
4- Post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation due to injury patient.
The third most common cause of pigmentation is the direct result of a type of lesion on the skin. Common Pigmentation Injuries:
- Excessive exposure to heat
- Insect bites or itchy rashes
Inflammation is your body's response to injury. Often the swelling is not obvious because it occurs on a deeper level. This inflammation stimulates melanin production and results in a concentration of pigment in the affected area. The most common result of improperly done hair laser is the growth of black spots on the legs or face. There are different types of hair lasers on the market and not every one is designed with different skin type and complexion.
